Additionally, Collin College's J. Marshall Pittman will be covering the highlights of the SIGGRAPH 2008 Conference recently held in Los Angeles, including the extensive Computer Animation Festival presentations: a new studio spawned from artists at ILM, animated short production lessons from Pixar & Disney Animation, and John Knoll's interview with the director of "Star Wars: Clone Wars" before it's pre-release screening.

Using the Paint Blend Shape Weights Tool
to extract L & R blendShapes from a symmetrical model

Modelling a character symmetrically may be easier than modelling assymetrically (where left and right are different). With the Paint Blend Shape Weights Tool in Maya, you can break up symmetrical lip sync geometry into it's component Left and Right blend shape targets.
