  • The Dark Night on its way to become the most pirated movie of 2008
The Batman sequel The Dark Night was a smash hit at the box office, with $400 million in U.S. ticket sales in its first 18 days after release and more than $1 billion in sales globally so far. But the title achieved another significant milestone: It amassed over one million illegal downloads on BitTorrent in less than seven days.

  • Stockwatch: Chip makers hit hard by pessimistic 2009 forecast

  • NASA tests interplanetary Internet
Interplanetary Internet? Shouldn’t we figure out how to survive conveniently on other planets first before we are making plans for an Internet connection on Mars? Questions like this one may come to mind when we hear NASA talking about its deep space Internet, but there is in fact a very practical use for this technology: It could enable a much more reliable and useful communications platform for future space missions that take spacecraft millions of miles away from Earth.

  • Microsoft moves to take back antivirus market
Analyst Opinion - Microsoft just announced it will be discontinuing OneCare and roll out out a free antivirus product soon. I believe the company made a huge mistake by not owning all aspects of primary security for Windows from the start. I applaud this move, because it corrects a problem Microsoft created itself. Apple should learn from Microsoft's lead here, because if Microsoft is successful, virus writers and Bots Masters may shift to Mac OS X. Some are already reporting that this shift has begun....

  • IBM to acquire Transitive

  • Valve selling Half-Life for 98 cents
Ok, we admit it, there are ways to get Half-Life for free, you may even have a copy in a graphics card box in your closet (at least I do in the box of the original ATI Radeon AIW), but we felt it was worth noting that Valve’s Half-Life game turned 10 today and the company is celebrating the birthday with a 98 cent edition of the game.

  • Judge dismisses Psystar's antitrust claims against Apple
The legal battle between the Mac-clone maker Psystar and Apple took a drastic a drastic turn as a Judge granted Apple's motion to dismiss Psystar's antitrust claims. Psystar failed to convince Judge William Alsup that Macs represent an independent market and that Apple is actively depriving "legitimate" rivals like Psystar from competing with the company. We are now expecting Apple's legal sharks to come out in force and go after Psystar.

  • A diamond bigger than Earth discovered
